SAMPLES Discoloured Photos
Most photos fade because they are exposed to direct sunlight. Long term exposure to UV radiation from fluros can also damage colour layers. Processing shortcuts leave the emulsion unstable.

A great number of photographs are starting to fade from the early 1970s due to the inferior colour photo papers.

Some photos from the 1920s and up seem to be paintings rather than photos.

The reason is that artwork was applied onto the photo to enhance the shortcommings of photographic processes. After the photo fades the paint stays.
